I understand that you need to do something you love, so iv been considering starting an online computer component store...im worryed about competition though, as there are already far too many online computer stores in my region. any suggestions? is it worth going ahead with it? or should i find anoughter hobby?

I also am considering graphics design...but that has the same problem :/

If you're going to start a business in an industry that is booming, make sure you stand out from the other companies and are completely different, because yeah, you're right, that's gonna be tough. I'm trying to think of a good approach to this but i'm not sure right now, i'll PM you if I come up with something.

Good luck in the meantime.

Seb

Graphic design is over rated, wouldnt bother trying to get in on it now.

Id go with the computer components store if you can stand out for some reason, maby a niche, style or price?

Good Luck

Any Business has lot of competition, even you sell drugs.. lol, but some advice before you try setuping your so called small business, you just put a list what all things you need and breakdown it to a small piece of paper or write to your blog(lol) like, DOMAIN (what name, is it related to your site, easy to remember, like that thinking) secondly maybe HOSTING(like how many space, bandwithmetc etc) Design and Development etc etc. the next is to market your site, now a days its Very easy to gain traffic just you need to look on what target market you are looking for ( like going to some forum to review your site, try to have link reciprocal/exchange. enewsletter, or the last thing pay people to visit your site ( joke) dont do the last one)you can also create some small competition to attract your target market even you have a small prize.Thats it I hope it helps..Thanks

Maybe you could start out with used computer component sales? People will sell there old stuff for very little, and with some cleaning and testing you can resell it for alot more usually. As for the website part, look for something like this: http://www.monstercommerce.com/ to help with the actual online shopping and payment.

Just telling you now, in the beginning, it's not going to be easy, but stick with it and don't give up ;) Like a wise old fortune cookie paper once said, "Do not give up, the beginning is always the hardest." (yes I actually have a fortune cookie wrapper that says that, lol).

But if it's something you want to do, go for it! You never know what could happen ;) Someday you could be the next NewEgg or TigerDirect :P

Just make sure you give us at Retire@21 a discount,

I believe in creating space. There might be competition but if one can create space even in a competition market then success is sure to come. After you start you have to create your customer base by targeting a particular section of the total usres. Then keep patience and you should get success.

Make your designs a little bit unique. Sample what people are looking for and there is the door into the market.

If you know something well and has some sort of idea on how to run the things then don't mind competition, you can find your share with a proper plan in mind
