Hey Guys,

Do you create a business plan for every business you create? What do you think the impact of creating a successful business plan would be on a new company.

I'm working on my first one ever right now. So far I'm feeling it will make a big impact, allow me to look back at my original plan, and keeping it all written down is alot easier than trying to remember. Having a plan makes everything easier (like robbing a bank... the ONLY way that will be successful is if their is a plan, lol).

I dunno about that metaphor... kinda makes the wrong idea on a site about retiring at 21... :P

I have never made a business plan, I suppose I should but I never get around to it.

It is true. You can't rob a bank successfully these days unless your plan is perfect to the very last detail.

And above all, you can retire at 21 if you do it right :)

I thought about it, but then I came across a startling revelation: I'm not smart enough :o Last thing I need is to have a bank robbery charge on my record. I really will be up the creek without a paddle. I'm done with all things criminal... Except mp3s :>

Some people think a business plan must be this detailed document with all this high sounding language. Forget all that, unless you are trying to use it to get financing from someone.

The real value of a business plan is to set your goals and then set tasks that help you obtain those goals. Having them laid out in a document helps you to see where you are making progress and where you may need to tweak something or put forth some more effort to make one part work a little better.

You can use a biz plan to keep track of your goals, check back with your plan on a rfegular basis to see if you are doing well.

Even a freelancer can benefit from a business plan. I have a simple one that commits me to sending out a certain number of queries per month, generating a certain amount of revenue per week, and adding a fixed number of new clients each quarter. It is nothing fancy, but it is enough to allow me to project my income and provide some goals to work toward.
