Hey everyone,

I've been fooling around with starting my business for a long time now. I'm finally going for it :D

I was just wondering how I could go about generating Investment for it, as I'm going to pay someone to design and code it for me, and the quote I got returned for the site I wanted is upwards of 1600 CANADIAN. :o

I was just wondering how would you go about getting investments for this much money?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, as I'm almost totally blank right now :D

Thanks,

spart

To be honest there's no one better than family, friends or local business's who wouldn't charge you for borrowing the money. You could also create a business plan and approach people in your industry to join venture with you which i recommend.

or here's another tip = your learn how to design and code. it isn't that that hard once you get your head round the basics but its probaly best to get someone to design it.

or try buying already coded templates from sites like www.templatemonster.com

It matters really...

If you don't mind paying back interest, then just get a loan from the bank.
That would be if you didn't want anyone really a part of the business besides yourself.

If you really want to, you can go find some businesses that would be willing to make an investment, but then again, you will have to pay it back somehow, whether it be straight cash, or just referrals.

The other option, is to just borrow money from family and friends... This way, the people you owe, are lenient on the time available to pay them back. Then again, some people like me, do not feel that comfortable borrowing money from close people, as it may change the relationship you have with that person.

Some great points nexous.

@r4zor, I was thinking about getting a pre-coded template, but those aren't as visually appealing as professionally made ones. I'd be just another site with a pre-coded template that looks just like a billion others out there.

What I want is to eventually spread into many areas the online world, such as becoming a GSP, or a site hosting service. My ultimate goal is to make a professional site design company, but my skills aren't there yet, so I'll get a professionally made site done for now, and when i'm better, I'll start my own business and code my own :)

got to agree qith r4zor. once i was in the same position. i didnt have any money to pay someone , so i took up the task and came up with my own design and now i dont have to depend on those coders. i can do my bit myself. it really helps if you know about it.
and as far as a joint venture is concerned, i guess it will be fruitful only if your partner is interested in it, just dont force someone just for the sake of investment.

just curious as to why is the person charging so much. did he give you all the details as to what all he would be using, like databases and others or just a price. because once i went to build a site for myself and asked the person that i wanted to put paypal icon over there which says i am verified member, the guy said he charges $150 just for putting up paypal icon, which i later learnt can be put for free from their site with just little coding.

You can just save so much cash by doing it yourself even if it means learning new skills.

Outside investment can be great if (a) you have reasonable payback terms that you can meet and ( the investors do not want to come in and tell you how to run your business. Those are two realities that you have to consider whenever you move outside your own resources. The ideal scenario is a steady source of cash that you can pay back without hurting yourself and also without someone looking over your shoulder at every decision you make. That sort of arrangement is hard to come by, outside of a bank loan.
