When you incorporated, did you choose to go with something simple like a Delaware incorporation, incorporate in your local jurisdiction, or go online and use one of the incorporation services?

How does incorporating work exactly and what are the pros and cons of doing it?

One of the immediate advantages of incorporating is that you don't have to be concerned about someone coming along and stealing your thunder and your client base by setting up a company with the same name and then legally incorporating it. In addition, there are many entities out there that do not care to deal with individuals, they want to deal with a company name. Being John Smith who designs web sites is one thing. Being John Smith, who is president and CKO of Ultimate Web Designs, Inc. is a whole nother kettle of fish.
