Default Local Businesses And Their Website

What logic do you see in a local business having a website?
Even if they cannot provide their product or service outside of the area?

Can you name some reasons why a local business should have a website?

I have seen my local flower shop offer a website for ordering. A lot of small and local business's ask me to create a website for them and I usually turn them down because I don't see a website being a wise investment for them.

Many local companies have their own website for ordering and for feedback purpose. Those websites are used to make the local companies much efficient in their business.

Michael, what do you mean you 'turn them down'?
Are you serious? :)

Next time some company asks, and you don't feel like doing it, pass along their information to me. I will do it even if it is not the best investment for their company, as long as I get paid.

When you get hired to build a page, you are not hired to be an advisor to them, but to complete a project for a nominal fee.

I would never turned down such an offer, provided I had the necessary time to complete it.

:)

Local business have a website it's a good idea, because it will help them to get feed back from their clients and it will also help them in expanding their business.

Florentin: I am just to nice, I like to know that my work will be a success, if I don't feel it will be then I won't do it.

Asola: I understand what you are saying but the fact is a lot of business's having a website is not needed.

I have seen quite a few local businesses who run a local shop but also run an online shop where they ship their stock to anyone in the country, I guess that's where the website comes in.

Sometimes it's not only because a website would be a wise investment that local shops want one, it also (almost) seems that a website is becoming more and more a standard. It doesn't matter if it's useful, you're a shop/company, thus you have a website. That seems to be thought behind some websites anyway...

As an example, I got asked by the father of the children where my sister babysits to do a website for his wife, because she teaches children to play the flute, in their shed. Obviously there was nothing to be gained for them economically, because quite honestly, I doubt they have the means to even handle an increase in customers. The sole purpose here seemed to be that a website looks professional.

In the end, they were just happy to be able to point people to their website if ever they got questions, and to have their URL printed in the local newspaper. There's nothing wrong with this if you ask me, even though it might not have been a very wise investment. I can see local shops thinking similarly: everyone and their mother has a website, it's almost as if you're not a true 'company' if you do not have a web presence...
