Default Face of 'Get Rich Quick' Changing

It seems that the face of all the 'Get Rich Quick' Schemes are changing. It seems it is now easier to develop an application for Facebook or the Apple App Store than to set up something like a blog and then get traffic to it.

Quote:
The mass media may be enamored of the rags-to-riches stories of developers on Apple’s App Store, but it isn’t the only game in town for indie developers to strike it rich. We’ve gotten word from SocialMedia, a popular ad platform for social network applications, that one of the company’s clients pulled in over $700,000 in advertising revenues from their Facebook apps in December alone. Granted, this was spread over 30+ of the client’s applications, but the company only consists of a handful of (very prolific) developers.

As a software developer, this is of particular interest to me.

I'm really confused by the iphone and facebook app get rich quick stuff. I mean, I get it because I see there's so much opportunity there. But on the other hand, if you're a talented programmer who can make millions with a facebook or iphone app, why couldn't you make millions with a website on the plain old internet? What is so different about those two platforms that they're changing up the game so much?

The fact that they don't need to find the user/traffic when they make the apps for those services/sites, the traffic is already there, they're just capitalising on it.

Mate only those things will give you money which are famous and popular. There are thousands people who is able to create an application for iPhone or Facebook (even 13 year old kid made iPhone Application)

If you have unique concept and you know how to monetize them than yes you can make good money otherwise you will be also a part of this group :)
