I've been a full-time freelance writer for a long time. I've never written for any of the revenue-share sites as a source of income - only as a top-up at the end of an article's useful life. They simply don't pay enough money for my time or effort.

I'm subscrbed to several free ezines that give out high-paying freelance jobs from all over the world each week. The average pay rate is usually $400 per 1,000 word article for a feature article in a print magazine.

Once an article is sold, the copyright returns to me so I can resell it. Resale rights usually sell for around $50-100 for the SAME article in a different publication/website.

When the rights return once again, THEN I'll dump it on a cheapie website like Constant Content for $10 or some pitiful amount of money as a reprint only.

Once it's sold a few times, then I'll throw it on Ezine Articles to get people to my site as a freebie.

BUT - if you start at the bottom first (cheap, useless revenue-sharing sites) then you can't work backwards.

That's the lowest of the low to a professional writer. Someone else did all that research and spent all that time creating a unique piece of work - and then a bottom-feeder will come along and "re-write" it?

It's theft. It's stealing someone else's hard work. It's cheap. And it's unprofessional.

If you do it right, there's plenty of money out there, do it better you can grab a lot of top sites wanting you to write them articles. Which could net you a lot of $$$...

If you wrote something half-decent and submitted it to somewhere useless like Helium, Triond or Associated Content, you might be lucky to earn $4 or $5. woo hoo. Don't spend it all at once.

If you wrote something half-decent and submitted it to a publication (either print or online) that pays writers PROPERLY, then you can earn anywhere from $100 to $500 depending on the publication.

It's up to you where you submit your work!

Raven, that’s true that sites such as Helium don’t pay much. But it is very difficult to find publications to take unsolicited articles and pay that much for them. Do have any good tips on how to submit articles to publications and get them to buy them? I’ve been trying and not getting anywhere, so I end up just sending the articles to helium to get a penny every month on them. If you can give me some advice, I’d appreciate it. Thanks.
