My wife is a new author with a book coming out in the next few months. We've heard that an internet presence is critical for sales. Her site links back to the publisher for direct purchases from the publisher. As soon as the book is printed, the site will also contain links to the stores where it can be purchased. I can't believe it's much different than any other type of site, but does anyone have any advice about the best way to advertise an author's site?

Maybe you can rephrase some extracts from the book (Like 2-3 paragraphs of a summary), and submit that to article directories and maybe get some of your friends to have the summary on their blogs, with a link back to her site.

What type of book did your wife write?
She could enter awards, submit to book-review sites, write articles directing people back to her book's sales page, hang out with other writers (who are always avid readers), join a book community where they sell each other's stuff.... there are heaps of options I have written 7 ebooks and they sell very well. The sales and promotion for them are all very different - because they're all in completely different niches. 3 of these are based on debt management, budgeting/saving money and investing. 3 different topics. 3 different approaches. I asked various finance website owners to review these copies. Visitors trust reviews. I made sure copies were available on Amazon and made sure those site owners could earn a commission if they sold any of my ebooks to their visitors. The other 4 are completely different again. Sales are doing fine ![]() |

You could also look into writing about it on online self-publishing sites (even though it isn't going to be sold on them), a good example would be lulu.com, they have a large community of self-publishers who also enjoy reading others books to gain a further understanding of the writing field.
