Default Is Alexa Acurate?

Today I was visiting some websites in the Make Money Online niche because I was looking for advertising. I found two websites which I wanted to advertise on:

BlueVerse.com - 33,980
ProBlogger.net - 43,082 Alexa

I asked the owner of BlueVerse how much traffic he was getting and he recieves around 20,000 visitors a month while Problogger.net gets 100,000's! This is very confusing for advertisers as I would assume BlueVerse.com would be attracting more traffic then Problogger.net and that is why I bought a advert.

Why do you think this has happened?

I doubt Alexa is accurate. I think it's pretty good if you want to get an idea whether the site gets visitors or not but you can't rely on it entirely.

I heard some webmasters go for compete.com's analytics. So according to the stats collected from compete.com here are their averages/mnth taken over a period of 1 yr:

blueverse.com: 22,685
problogger.com: 451,963

(unique visitors)

I had a great deal of high hopes for this particular search engine. However, the fact that most people do not believe or trust this search engine rankings pretty much spelled the end of any expectations for this search engine.

Thanks Zharlene, those stats look a lot more accurate! I think Alexa needs to sort this out and fast!

Quite accurate I must say! With the increase in web traffic to my blog, my Alexa "number" for my blog decreases. What I am saying is, the results matches.

Forrester Research once revealed Alexa takes readings from major search engines and averages those results. How they do it, I have no idea.
